Doing a median split with an odd number of participants?

How do I split the participants if there is an odd number? For example, if I have 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, the median is 8 but in which group do I put the 8 value? If I want to recode the data as low and high, the lows are 2, 4, and 6 and the highs are 10, 12, and 14 - what happens to the 8 value?

I think that, by definition, with a median split you can't code the median as low OR high--it is exactly in the middle, no?Doing a median split with an odd number of participants?
You could randomly put the median value in either group. Or always put it in the lower group (my preference), or the higher.
