Why is this country so split by political groups?

They said in 9/11 ';United we stand divided we fall';, so why are we acting like a bunch of mindless sheeps, instead of opening our eyes to what is going on we are so oppsessed with picking candidates from our own social groups. Martin Luther King jr, said ';Wrong is wrong no matter who says or does it.'; Think to your self what your definition of a liberal, or a conservative is. Do you think that this kind of sterio typing is in the best interest of this country? Why is this country so split by political groups?
Regardless of what was said after 9/11, the government intentionally tries to keep us divided and bickering over insignificant matters, often using the press, in order to distract us from the government agendas that adversely affect us all.Why is this country so split by political groups?
I attended the non-announcement of Mayor Bloomberg at the University of Oklahoma earlier this month. When Bloomberg decided not to announce, the republican and democratic senators and governors there dealt with the issue of partisan hatred and gridlock.

One of the more interesting things they blamed for this was the constant redrawing of precinct lines by both parties to make it easier to get their party candidates elected. They said, in essence, parties do not cater to the middle anymore, now they cater to their bases because each voting area leans one way or another.

It clearly is not. Cutting taxes and military spending are not universal cure-alls; Creating new bureaucracies are also not the right answer in many cases. Some times a Dem idea is the best solution, sometimes a Rep idea, and frankly sometimes a Green or a Libertarian idea is the best solution for a problem. We only hurt this country we all love when we don't acknowledge that simple truth.
Do you know that half of the people don't vote, why is this? I believe it is because they don't like the choices. What we need is election reform were everyone runs as a Independent and all debates are held on public television giving all canidates equal time and no ads blitzing the tv all the time, everyone who wants to runs is allowed if they are a citizen and we have instant run off voting thru a series of rounds until the final person is chosen. Then you would have a lot more perticipation.
Actually, one of the reasons for the obvious split between ';liberal'; and ';Conservative'; was the Bork appt by Ronald Reagan to the Supreme Court. Bork was rejected. It was a huge controversy.

Partisanship has been a part of American politics since it's inception, ie the Democratic Repblicans and the Whigs and the Federalists. We all agree we love America, we just seem to disagree on the best way to run it and institute policies. We have come together as a nation when it's been most important, 9-11, hurricane Katrina, etc...
I think that a lot of the right-wing ideologues like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly have made so much money promoting ridiculous wedge issues that they won't stop. Guns and gays are great wedge issues, and they are great for dittoheads. But it is bad for quality conversation about substantive issues.
The cultural revolution of the 60s. Growing disregard for immigration policy.
before the internet, we had the 6 o clock news and the newspaper. anything other than that could not be heard. if you hadnt noticed, we live in the information age where something happens in london, b4 the smoke clears, its on the cbs news.

so with that said, do you see where im going with this? theres so many ways to get out different talking points than b4.

we are not sheep if we re not voting lock step in the primaries. you got every candidate winning at least one state so far. ';sheeple'; would vote 1 way and that s it.

bottom line, you dont know what you re talking about
What your saying is so true and unfair in todays society. I think the reason people do this is because it is far easier to take a side (liberal or conservative for example) than to analyze everything on your own and have your own thoughts.

On top of this, the media pumps the ';choose a side'; message into American around the clock, its time for people to wake up and think for themselves, before that becomes illegal!
It began with the unlimited hatred the GOP expressed toward Bill Clinton and grew progressively worse.

When Clinton went after someone they accused him of ';Wag The Dog';

When Clinton cheated on his wife, they paid $66 MILLION to a special prosecutor to hunt him down.

Radio talk shows were produced for the sole purpose of spreading hate and discontent against Bill Clinton.

Then when Bush wanted to invade Iraq, whomever did not agree were called ';cowards, traitors, communists, and supporters of terrorists';.

Therefore, I have zero respect for those who support accusing people of hating America because they do not agree with the president and his lie-base ventures abroad. I don't start fights. I surely don't run away from them either.
Because so many refuse to use spell-check.
No party is right or wrong, persay, they just represent different philosophies on how to achieve the same goal - a great country for us to be a part of and live in. Our differences spark healthy debate that allows us to try different things, make changes, and adapt to the needs of the country and the people. We are all Americans first, party members second.
