I have just got a haircut b'coz of split ends. Can you suggest me how to prevent split ends?

split ends can be prevented by applying oil mixed with the olive oil.

Trim your ends every 8 weeks. And use Aussie 3 minute miracle every night. That stuff works wonders! its pretty cheap too. Dont tease your hair, or use to many hair products, also avoid tight head bands or elastic. When you pull them out they break your hair.I have just got a haircut b'coz of split ends. To prevent split ends regularly oil ur hair and don't rub ur hair after wash. use good quality of shampoo while washing. Trim off ur hair at regular period of intervals that is within a month or two.
hot oil treatments, placenta, and don't flat iron curl blow dry or use products in your hair.
Do you do a lot to your hair? Blow drying, straightening, curling, perming, teasing etc.? Stop doing that and opt for a style that's easier to maintain.
Did that second person say placenta?
deep condition, dont wear your hair down a lot, low or no heat. most of the time splits cannot be prevented but you can keep it to a minimum. also low manipulation. Use wide tooth combs and dont brush your hair while wet. always keep your ends moisturized.
make sure you use a shampoo and conditioner that leaves your hair feeling nice. this doesn't have to be expensive, and you can find some cheap ones. basically, if it makes your hair hard to manage, or dry, or ';sticky'; (i've had this happen with some super-cheap brands), then don't use them, obviously.

i like herbal essences or tresemme, they work fine for me.

also, you should avoid using styling tools that damage your hair, or at least use them less frequently. this means blowdrying your hair everyday is out - try and extend the blowout by a day or so. you can use dry shampoo to keep your hair clean and prevent oiliness.

finally, the only real way to prevent split ends is to get regular trims every 4-6 weeks. otherwise, the split will continue to travel up the hair shaft and keep getting longer. then you'll have to cut off a lot more hair. if you just keep up the trims (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch each time), you won't have to cut so much.
get your hair trimed on a regular basis.

my mom is a hair dresser and thats the only way to prevent it.

you dont have to get much off just like 1/2 or a 1/4 an inch every like few months.
Dont use cheap shampoo or conditioner...
protect your hair from harsh conditions like excessive heat and cold and extra exposure to sun.Oil your hair once a week followed by hot towel treatment one hour before shampooing.Use a good quality conditioner and include lots of protein in yr diet to make your hair even stronger.
get trims every 6 weeks.
I was having the same problem...I use aussie hair insurance leave in conditioner on the ends of my hair. It works good..also try not to use to much heat tools on your hair. If you need to wait till your hair is almost dry to prevent your hair from being exposed to the heat for a long period of time.
