Splitting an Atom?

Lol, when i was little, someone told me that if you Split an atom, it would explode.. Is that true?Splitting an Atom?
Only if the nucleus is heavier than Fe-56. Certain isotopes of uranium and plutonium do this quite readily, or so I've been told.Splitting an Atom?
Splitting an atom both requires energy and releases (a lot of) energy. It's easier with radioactive elements because they are unstable to begin with.
