Ok, lets split this into two seperate questions. ';Can you split HD cable and attach a modem?'; - Yes. ';And still receiver good service?'; - No. They make those high definition component cables for a reason. If you alter it at all you are going to experience a deteriorating picture quality.

yes u can, after u split it on ur comp type in 192.168.100.1 go to signals, ur upstream should be between 35 and 55, and ur down stream should be between 10 and -10. if ur within these specs u shoulld have no problem
